Drug manufacturer coupons – helpful or harmful?

For many years, companies have used coupons as a way to incent consumers to choose to buy their product over a competing brand.  From cereal to shampoo, companies distribute coupons to get consumers to buy their products.  Drug manufacturers also use this marketing technique, though in a slightly different way than a grocery coupon.

How drug coupons work

When a patient is diagnosed with, or is being medically managed for, a health condition that requires prescription drugs, often, there are a number of drugs that a physician can choose from in order to treat the condition.  Many brand name drugs have generic alternatives that are available that have the same effect in treatment, but cost significantly less than the brand name counterparts.

Cold & Flu Prevention

The average adult gets three colds per year, each lasting an average of nine days.  It can be tricky to avoid getting sick during cold and flu season, but incorporating a few prevention habits into your routine can help get you through.

Wash your hands

This is the single most effective way to prevent illness.  Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  Germs can grow on bar soap, so choose liquid soap in a pump if you can.  If you can’t wash your hands, use hand sanitizer.

Mental Health for All

Today is World Mental Health Day created by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise public awareness of mental health issues.  It is also Mental Illness Awareness week in Manitoba from October 6th to 12th.  In today’s busy world, managing the many aspects of your life can be a challenge.  It is easy for the scales to tip too far in one direction for a time, and for you to feel out of balance.  Feeling out of balance for too long can negatively impact your emotional well-being.
